ABSTRACT

The characteristic stability of the mexican family is feeling the impact of rising separation and divorce rates, accompanied by a drop in the average age of woman at the time of their separation or divorce. This trend is nationwide, but it is particularly notable in northern Mexico, where the highest divorce and separation rates and recorded. This region also has a higher-than-average proportion of divorced and separated young women among the population of women who married at the early age. However, there are differences between the subregions of northern Mexico, and within them, differences between states in the frequency of divorce and, to a lesser degree, of divorce and separation considered jointly. At the beginning of the 1980s, the highest levels of marriage dissolution were recorded in the northwestern subregion and within it, in the state of Baja California. Meanwhile, the lowest rates were recorded In the northeast, and within that subregion in the state of Nuevo León.
ER -
