Análisis estadístico del comportamiento de los residuos sólidos domiciliarios en una comunidad urbana

En este artículo se presentan los resultados obtenidos al analizar los residuos sólidos domiciliarios en una comunidad urbana de la ciudad de Mexicali. Para realizar el estudio se eligió una colonia del oriente de la ciudad, en la que se hizo una caracterización de los residuos sólidos de la comunidad a través de un muestreo; luego se analizó estadísticamente la información obtenida para explicar el comportamiento de los residuos que se generan en esta comunidad. Entre los resultados obtenidos se encontró que un porcentaje muy alto de la basura no debe ir directamente al relleno sanitario porque puede ser reciclada o reusada. Por esta razón se requiere involucrar a la comunidad en esas prácticas, para lo cual será necesario concientizarla a través de un programa de educación ambiental.
ABSTRACT
In this article are presented the results of the analysis of residential solid waste is a colonia in Mexicali City. In order to make the research; a colonia located at the west of the city was selected where a characterization of solid waste was applied through a sampling. Later, a statistical analysis of the information was made to explain the solid waste behavior generated in that colonia. Between the results, it was found that a very high percentage of solid waste should not take to the landfill because it could be recycled or reused. Therefore it is required to involve the community in that kind of topics, so it is necessary to convince them trough an environmental educational program.
