Focus and Scope

The main objective of the Frontera Norte journal is to publish scientific texts aimed primarily at a specialist readership and which rigorously address the role and significance of borders in today’s world, from a theoretical or methodological perspective or in light of empirical data that contributes to understanding border phenomena in their various forms. In the same vein, any academic contribution addressing a topic in which the role of territory and/or subnational spaces is a key object of analysis is also of interest.

The journal is aimed at researchers, teachers, graduate students, and scholars interested in research exploring border and territorial phenomena.

Given the complexity of border and territorial phenomena, it is acknowledged that the journal is of a multidisciplinary nature, and research from an interdisciplinary perspective will be well received. Subjects considered relevant include cross-border mobility, the living conditions and life strategies of border populations, material and symbolic exchanges across borders and the barriers to such exchanges, the establishment and transformation of borders and collective identities in border regions, cross-border conflicts and negotiations with regard to health and the environment, and public policies with a cross-border impact.

Peer Review Process

Texts received for publication will be reviewed to ensure they meet the presentation guidelines. Once this requirement is met, the content will be examined and, if necessary, the text will be sent for a pre-review by a member of the Editorial Committee who will decide on its suitability for the journal.

Manuscripts accepted in the initial review will be anonymized (any references identifying the authors will be removed) and sent to two specialized academic referees not affiliated with the author’s own institution, who will issue their decision within four weeks. A paper requires two positive decisions to be published. In the event of a disagreement between the two decisions, the paper will be sent to a third referee.

The following decisions are possible:

  1. Publishable as is.
  2. Publishable with minor changes.
  3. Publishable with major changes.
  4. 4. Publication not recommended.

If major changes are required, the revised version of the paper will be reviewed by one of the referees who will make a definitive decision on publication.

The final decision cannot be appealed.
