Abstract

En la década de 1940 Fernando Ortiz publica en Cuba dos de sus obras más influyentes en el pensamiento sociológico mundial: Contrapunteo cubano del tabaco y el azúcar (Advertencia de sus contrastes agrarios, económicos, históricos y sociales, su etnografía y su transculturación) (1940) y El engaño de las razas (1946). En esa misma década ocurre la segunda guerra mundial. Casi 70 años después, en el posapocalipsis político causado por la muerte de los derechos humanos, tras la caída de las Torres Gemelas y el ascenso y descenso de varios regímenes mundiales, sumando la guerra térmica, la obra de Ortiz sigue vigente y se revela como visionaria. Mientras que otras propuestas como las de la antropología norteamericana publicadas por Harvard y Chicago, resultaron a la postre poco útiles para dar cuenta de transformaciones sociales y contradicciones humanas, las proposiciones intelectuales de este sabio cubano resultan fundamentales a una antropología latinoamericana de trascendencia universal.
