Abstract

En este documento se utiliza la metodología de análisis de los ciclos económicos propuesta porKydland y Prescott (1990) para estudiar la relación entre las fluctuaciones cíclicas de la producciónmaquiladora de México y las de otras variables clave de la economía doméstica y del sectorexterno del país. Uno de los resultados más importantes es que las fluctuaciones cíclicas de laproducción maquiladora siguen una dinámica diferente a las de la producción de la industrianacional, por lo que responden de manera distinta a las diferentes variables macroeconómicas.Por otro lado, los efectos de la economía estadounidense no parecen ser homogéneos a travésdel tiempo y a través del ciclo económico.ABSTRACTThe Kydland and Prescott's (1990) methodology for business cycles analysis is used to addressthe relationship between the cyclical fluctuations of the Mexican maquiladoras production andthose of other domestic and external sector variables. One of the most important results inthat maquiladoras production exhibit a different dynamics compared to that on the totalindustrial production which induce a different response to changes in the main macroeconomicvariables. On the other hand, there evidence of time and business cycle dependent effects of theUS economy on maquiladoras production fluctuations.
