Abstract

En este trabajo se investigan las causas de la rotación de los trabajadores directos de la industria maquiladora. Para ello se analiza el comportamiento de los principales autores involucrados en el fenómeno: los trabajadores y las empresas. Para el análisis se proponen dos modelos teóricos: uno para trabajadores y otro para las empresas. Se explora la evidencia que resulta de aplicar el modelo para trabajadores a una muestra que contiene información tanto de los mismos como de las empresas maquiladoras en la ciudad de Tijuana. Los resultados indican que los factores correspondientes a las características del trabajador no son los únicos que explican la rotación, sino que también son muy importantes los factores representativos de las plantas maquiladoras. En concordancia con los resultados, se sugiere la hipótesis de que todos los factores que afectan a la rotación son controlables por la empresa. Por un lado, mediante las políticas de selección del personal y, por otro, mediante la modificación de las condiciones laborales.ABSTRACTThis paper reflects the results of the research on the causes of direct worker rotation in the maquiladora industry. In this case, the behavoir of the main actors, i.e. workers and maquiladoras, involved in this problem is analyzed. For this analysis, two theoretical models are proposed: one for workers and other for maquiladoras. The evidence resulting from the application of the model of workers to a sample that contains information, both on the workers themselves and on the maquiladoras they work for in the city of Tijuana is explored. The results indicate that the factors corresponding to the characteristics of the worker are not only ones that explain worker rotation, but those factors representing the maquiladora plants have an important influence too. In accordance with the results, the researcher suggests the hypotesis that all factors affecting worker rotation in the maquiladora industry are controlled by the company, whether through personnel selection policies or through the modification of work conditions.
