Abstract

Este trabajo considera el papel de la etnia en la formulación de políticas de población para la región fronteriza entre México con Estados Unidos. Se presentan dos tipos de reflexión de carácter teórico-metodológico: la identificación de los grupos étnicos que se encuentran en ambos lados de la frontera y la inserción de la etnia como variable de control en el proceso de formulación de políticas de población. Se propone una agenda de investigación que enfatiza la integración económica y social de la región fronteriza y la necesidad de reconceptualizar las políticas públicas, incluyendo las de población, pasando de un nivel nacional a un nivel regional trasnacional. ABSTRACTThis study examines ethnicity as a factor in the formulation of population policies in the U.S. -Mexico border region. The author presents two types of theorethical-methodological reflections: (1) the identification of the ethnic groups that reside on both sides of this border, and (2) the impact of ethnicity as a control variable in the development of population policies. The research agenda proposed stresses the economic and social integration of the border region and the need to reconceptualize public policies, including population policies, moving from a national level to a transnational regional level.
