Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la evolución en el patrón de cultivos y su efecto en la reorganización de la producción agrícola en el Valle de Mexicali, Baja California. Se realiza un análisis por grupo de cultivos y a su vez con variables como el empleo agrícola, cambio técnico y mercado hacia el que dirige su producción. El autor concluye que esta modalidad de desarrollo agrícola convirtió al Valle de Mexicali en una región altamente dependiente y vulnerable al mercado externo.ABSTRACTThe objective of this paper is to analyze changing crop patterns in the Mexicali Valley of Baja California, and to determine the effects of this evolution on the reorganization of agricultural production there. The methodology includes an analysis by groups of crops and the analysis takes into consideration variables such as agricultural employment, technological changes, and the markets toward which the valley's agricultural output is directed. The author concludes that the type of agricultural development now prevailing in the Mexicali Valley has transformed this rich agricultural area into a region that es highly dependent on and vulnerable to foreign markets.
